PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Customized Case Plans

Greater New Beginnings Youth Services, Inc. is a non-profit 501(C)-3 residential treatment facility dedicated to housing male children between the ages of 12-17, who are at-risk. They are referred for placement with our agency by various Juvenile Probation departments throughout California.

We are able to provide services for 12 male youth and serve approximately 60 youth annually. Greater New Beginnings is committed to providing our youth with the tools to make a better tomorrow. To that end, all staff members, from Administration to our Counselors are supportive in implementing individual Needs and Service plans for each youth placed with our agency. This “team” effort creates an environment that heightens academic, social, behavioral and interpersonal skills.

Upon entering our facility, every youth undergoes an assessment by a credentialed case manager. As a result, an “Individual Education Plan” is developed to suit the academic, emotional, and social needs of the minor. The plan entails regular school attendance, personalized tutoring, ongoing workshops, outside employment opportunities, and individual and group counseling sessions focusing on topics such as: drug use & addiction, delinquent behavior, anger management, low self-esteem, depression, independent living skills, school performance, and career pursuits.

Collectively, Greater New Beginnings Youth Services, Inc. serves to counteract the destructive influences in which our children have been forced to base their life course. Our goal is to introduce our children to education, the ability to communicate problems and resolve them, as well as other extracurricular activities that take them beyond what they have come to know. We have witnessed that a positive environment coupled with education builds self-worth and fuels self-motivation; aiding in creating a NEW BEGINNING for all of our youth.

On-Site Education & Recreation

Unlike other Bay Area group homes, we house a specialized Educational & Recreation Center on the premises. This 1200 square foot facility includes a training center where we conduct computer training and specialized tutoring sessions, as well as additional space for recreational activities such as billiards and ping-pong. This space has been instrumental in providing a wholesome alternative to “hanging out”.

Recreational Events:

  • Camping/Picnics
  • Museum Visits

  • Ballgame Visits
  • Personal Fitness

Program Flexibility

Unlike any other facility, Greater New Beginnings is proud to offer programs that range from three (3), six (6), nine (9), and twelve (12) months in duration. This flexibility allows the Juvenile Court the opportunity to assess the youth and recommend a program length relative to each circumstance. Each program is equipped with a measurement of success. While each youth is given a customized case plan, they are also responsible for attaining a specified number of “merit points” determined at the start of their stay. Points are earned by attending school regularly, and achieving academic milestones such as passing a test, obtaining a satisfactory grade on a homework assignment, and participating in daily chores. This “merit point” system is another way for our youth to learn accountability and see the fruits of their efforts when attainable goals are set and met. To ensure on-going motivation for earning points, rewards are given when a specific number of goals are met per week.
